moon sand

The kids & I tried out a recipe for moon sand. Since they love building at the beach this was a big hit. It was very simple & the kids had fun building and digging with all kinds of kitchen tools.

I had Ava measure out all the ingredients to work on some math skills and help mix everything.

Cole liked making little hills with his cups

They definitely had a blast & we'll have to make a bigger batch next time!

date art

Yes you will see a lot of pinterest inspired projects now:) I finally finished the date art for our living room. I love having all our special dates on display as art.

dots

The kids have been very into creating lately which I love! Cole's attention span lasts a little longer now so he actually will spend some time doing art & different activities before moving on to something else. Ava found our dot markers so they got busy creating while I got started on dinner. Cole had more fun taking the caps on and off, making some marks and moving on to the next color. Ava was a lot more into making pictures, like flowers, out of the dots.

The best part is the two of them like cleaning so I can spray some natural cleaner on the table and they go to town cleaning every last spot. Love that :)

chalk & milford trail

Monday was gorgeous---perfect summer weather! Cole & I dropped Ava off at gymnastics camp and then had a bunch of errands to run. Cole was SO good the whole time. He even let me try on some new clothes without trying to escape out the bottom of the changing room door. We finally came home and Cole ran right for the chalk and signed "please" so we stayed out and chalked up the driveway. Usually Cole will eat or throw the chalk but he's been much more into drawing with it now.

handsome boy

We picked Ava up from gymnastics, had a quick lunch and headed to a new bike/walking trail in Milford. There was a big storm coming so we just had a quick trip but it's definitely something the kids would love to take their bikes to next time. Right by the parking lot is a big lake so we sat and watching the ducks. Ava was so excited to see them & named them all. We did a quick walk on the trail but Cole was exhausted and not into walking at all. We headed home and all enjoyed some nice long naps!

--------------------------
Cole has to do everything that Ava does---including washing his hands at the kitchen sink. He can't quite reach the soap & faucet so Ava gave him a helping hand & made sure he wouldn't fall.

sometimes they are so sweet together :)

heatwave

It's been a heatwave here! I'm not a big fan of temps in the triple digits but I'll take sitting my AC over shoveling 3 feet of snow at 4 am any day :) Because the temps were so high & the air quality it wasn't safe to do stuff outside with the kids---so we found some indoor things to keep us busy & cool.

Ava took over one of my shoe boxes and decorated a garage for her cars

My mom came with us to hit up the closing sale at Borders on Friday. I had some things to return at the mall so we headed over there and hit some more sales, picked up some things for California & walked around for a bit. The kids love their new books & they immediately piled in the reading chair to read together.
Thankfully the weather has been much cooler & we've been able to get outside!

reading & star gazing

We brought a blanket & some books outside for some outdoor reading time before naps. We set up under the tree in the front yard. I was pretty sure Cole would be off running but he stayed on the blanket the whole time and read with us. Both kids were so tired so they snuggled on the blanket and we watched the cloud for a bit.

taking time to read to each other---so sweet

Later that night Ava was having some trouble falling asleep. I brought her outside and we sat in the backyard and watched the stars. It was so nice soaking up that one-on-one time and just sitting and watching the stars. She is such a sweetie & growing up way too fast so I loved having that time with her.

hey hey good lookin'

...whatcha got cookin'?

We've been cooking up a storm with all the yummy recipes we've found on pinterest. The kids love cooking & helping out in the kitchen so we picked some easy & kid friendly desserts to start.

Ava & I made a "sand" version of dirt cups using vanilla pudding and crushed vanilla oreos. Ava liked crushing up the oreos and mixing everything together.

we also enjoyed some lemonade in a mason jar. quite the summery treat!

I made some cinnamon swirl pancakes for the kids last weekend. They were SO yummy and very easy. At first Ava didn't like "the brown swirl" but once she realized it was cinnamon she was sold. I think I had 2 mini ones out of the whole batch.
It's been hot so we made some frozen s'more desserts. These were delicious & a great treat for those hot nights. It was simply chocolate pudding, crushed graham crackers and marshmallow fluff. I let the kids layer the glass with all the ingredients and then we popped it in the freezer. Everyone thought these were a big hit. Definitely will be going into the recipe rotation!

a little slice of heaven from the freezer :)

We also made some blueberry muffins too which Cole gobbled down! I've never seen him eat so much---he was a big fan.

giggles, grins & good times!
